Chairman: Kieron Lynch MSI (Dip)
Kieron Lynch has been a trustee since 1995 and was appointed Treasurer in 2002. He was elected Chairman in December 2006. Kieron was educated at St Andrews University where he graduated with an MA in Philosphy. He has spent thirty-one years working in the Fixed Income markets, the first ten of which were spent with Mullens & Co, the Gilt-edged stock broking firm that has been associated with the Fund since 1930. He is currently a director of Deutsche Bank, London where he has been working in the Global Markets division for the last 11 years. He is a Fellow of the Securities Institute and a member of the Holy Cross Prep
School advisory body.
Acting Vice Chairman: Denise Dennehy RGN, RHV, RM
Denise Dennehy qualified as a State Registered Nurse in her home town Wellington New Zealand. Later qualifications S.C.M. (State Certified Midwife) and H.V. (Health Visitor) were awarded after study in the U.K. Following many years of practice in these fields of patient care she moved into nursing management and worked in the N.H.S. at a senior level in this role. She moved to the Civil Service to a post in the Nursing Division of the Department of Health as Nursing Officer in the International Relations Unit. She was an active member of the Health Visiters Association and served as Hon.Treasurer and Chairman. She became a Trustee of the 1930 Fund for District Nurses in 1995 and continues to enjoy the work.
Treasurer: Michael Leeson FIA
Mike’s early career was at stockbrokers Mullens, working initially on the government broking and research side before joining the gilt-edged dealing desk in 1981. He became a partner of the firm in 1984 and left in 1998. From 2000 until 2003 Mike used his actuarial qualification to help Abbey Life and Hazell Carr with their pensions mis-selling review cases. In late 2003 until his retirement in April 2009 Mike worked for the Law Debenture Trust Corporation where he represented the company on numerous pension trustee boards where his broad investment experience was particularly valuable. Mike joined the 1930’s Fund trustee board in December 2006.
Committee Member: Jean Bailey RGN, RM, RHV, Msc.
Jean has held senior nurse management posts over 43 years in the NHS and Independent healthcare sectors. She recently retired from full time employment with the Royal College of Nursing where as the lead management adviser she was involved in the development and facilitation of the RCN’s political leadership programme in the UK and Europe. She has undertaken overseas consultancies in India, Ghana, Abu Dhabi and Ethiopia. She has joined THET as a volunteer nurse adviser. She is founder and chairman of the Aysanew Kassa Trust, a trustee of LinkEthiopia and chairman of the Anglo Ethiopian society.
Committee Member: Paul G Beard OBE, RGN, RMN, NDN Cert, Dip CPN
Paul Beard is a Registered Nurse with 35 years experience in the NHS. Prior to setting up his own consulting practice in January 2001, Paul held several executive director board level positions in the NHS and has more latterly held non-executive positions in the charitable, not for profit sector. Paul has held a Research Fellowship with the Council of Europe and an Honorary Lectureship with the University of Sheffield. Currently he is a member of the Professional Advisory Panel, Queens Nursing Institute, and a Council Member of The Nightingale Fund Council.He was awarded an OBE for services to healthcare, having made a significant contribution to mental health services and nursing. Paul became a trustee to the 1930 Fund in 1998.
Committee Member: Peter W Goodwin BA (Oxon)
Peter Goodwin was appointed a trustee to the 1930 Fund in 1994. He is a solicitor, formerly a partner in the City firm of Freshfields (until 1990) and then a partner in the Westminster firm of Bircham Dyson Bell (until 2006) and now a consultant with that firm, specialising in trust and tax work.
Committee Member: Lindsey Hayes RGN, RHV, Post Grad Cert Ed., MSc.
Throughout her career, Lindsey’s passion for improving health has been a driving force. Not only has it influenced her career path through community nursing, health visiting, counselling, teaching and training and management but has been key to her commitment to working with and influencing to improve the health of the most disadvantaged groups in society.
Lindsey’s interest in people, through working with them in many different situations has led to a particular interest in individual, family and group behaviour, specifically related to health.
Currently working at the Royal College of Nursing Lindsey’s work focuses on developing members’ and nurses’ leadership skills and attributes that enable them to influence strategically to improve health and patient care. Appointed as a Trustee to the 1930 Fund in 2010, Lindsey will be working with colleagues to contribute to and promote the work of the Fund.
Commitee Member: Judy Joseph
Judy trained as a Health Visitor in 1974 and went on to undertake wide ranging roles in Community Health.
She held positions in the NHS, voluntary sector and overseas including Hong Kong and Gibraltar. In 2000 she gained an Academic Nurse research Fellowship with UCLMA. In 2001 she worked in Grenada with the Research Dept. University of St Georges and the Department of Health to investigate parents’ responses to parasitic infestation in children.
In 2003 she moved into the museum and heritage sector, a change she enjoys immensely. Judy has a strong interest in the therapeutic and enrichment potential of the touching and handling of museum objects to patients’ psychological and physical well being. As co-manager of the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeological, she participated in the pilot ‘Touch and Handling Therapy’ between UCL Museums and University College Hospital.
Judy works freelance and has undertaken evaluations of Museum Exhibitions that include ‘Hospital Voices’ at the Florence Nightingale Museum. She is currently working at the British Museum developing ESOL (English as a Second Other Language) programmes and tours. Judy also volunteers at the National Archives documenting Colonial Records.
